Cookies are used for two reasons on this site. The first reason is for the authorization system. In the cookie a hashed key is stored so the system remembers who the logged in users are. The second reason is for personalization. For instance, sorting and filtering images in different ways. The cookies are not used to track browsing habbits.
This site works even if cookies are turned off in the web browser. However certain things will not work. For instance you will not be able to log in and the search/view options vill not be persitent between page page refreshes.
